Daniel Karl I. Weidele is a research staff member with IBM Research. He is an accomplished professional and researcher in the fields of information visualization and artificial intelligence, with a distinguished academic and industry background. He holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in information engineering from the University of Konstanz, Germany, where he specialized in visualization and recommender systems. Early in his career, he ascended to the role of Managing Director at a software firm, spearheading the development of innovative, robust software solutions with thousands of users in the automotive and telecommunication industries.
As a PhD candidate under a prestigious European research grant, Weidele collaborated with Professor Ulrik Brandes (now at ETH Zurich), focusing on network science and graph layout computations. His expertise expanded during an internship at IBM Research’s Visual AI Lab, where he transitioned into a permanent position. At IBM Research, Weidele developed a strong profile combining intelligent user interfaces with automated artificial intelligence, contributing to cutting-edge advancements and holding several patents in these domains.
Currently, in collaboration with Professor Antonio Torralba at MIT, Weidele is pioneering new methods for interactive semantic interpretability of artificial neural networks, pushing the boundaries of AI innovation and understanding.
