Songtao Lu is currently a Senior Research Scientist with the Mathematics of AI group at the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center, Yorktown Heights, NY, USA. He was a Research Scientist in the same group from Sept. 2020 to Aug. 2022, an AI resident from Sept. 2019 to Aug. 2020, and a Postdoc Associate with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Minnesota from Sept. 2018 to Sept. 2019. He received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from Iowa State University in Aug. 2018. His research interests mainly lie in the areas of continuous optimization, machine learning, and causal inference.

He was the recipient of the UAI Best Paper Runner-Up Award (2022), IBM Invention Plateau Accomplishment Award (2021), IBM Research Accomplishment Award (2021), Post-Doctoral Travel Award from the 36th International Conference on Machine Learning (2019), Student Travel Award from the 20th International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Statistics (2017), Research Excellence Award from the Graduate College at Iowa State University (2017), and Graduate and Professional Student Senate Research Award at Iowa State University (2015).
